Braces for a wedding arch

My son is getting married in March, it will be a traditional Jewish wedding. He wanted to build the archway he and his future wife will stand under during the ceremony.

He asked me to make the corner braces for the arch. As usual there are no plans drawn up, he knows what part he is building and I know what part I am building and the parts will come together in NYC sometime in March.

this is about as close as I ever come to a plan, just a couple arcs to see what size to cut

first glue up, I glue half at a time because 8 pieces of 3/16 maple is too much for me to bend

I remember that your son was studying to be a Rabbi a few years ago. These "arches" are called Chuppas in a Jewish wedding ceremony and they can have all kinds of shapes and decorations. I haven't figured out what you and your son are designing for his wedding.

Yes, chuppah is correct. I didn’t think most people would know the term or bother to look it up so I simplified my description.

It is a very simple one with 4 4x4 posts, 4 2x4 beams mortised into the posts near the top, and these curved parts bolted to each post and beam as a brace.

I didn't know the term but you said "traditional Jewish wedding" so there must be traditions involved so I searched and found the term Chuppah with descriptions of what it is.

Mike .......... Tell him soon he will know the difference between complete and finished

If his new wife is his soul mate ...... he will be complete, But ... if she is not, well then .... he is finished ! :p

Congrats, the Chuppah looks looks authentic
