Box attempt

I saw this plan in WOOD magazine, and had to try it. So I finally got some shop time and made it for my dad for Christmas.

Is that the one that had the ceramic tile in the top? I like your choice of a top than theirs. Is that a piece of figured wood?

Nice looking box. I've looked at that box in WOOD several times, thinking I would try it and other projects seem to get a higher priority. You did I good job with it. What did you use in place of the tile shown in the magazine?

Is that a little bit of curly wood I see? Thats a great looking box:icon_thum more than just an attempt.

Wood choice was some uniquely figured red oak I had left over. The lid, is a ceramic tile I picked up from Lowe's. It wasn't as thick as the one the article mentions, but it worked. Finish is several coats of satin poly.
