I use one sometimes, it depends on the bowl and the wood.

I bought this one:

Yes it works great, I use a 2 inch velcro pad and discs. Usually only need 180 and up but sometimes have to use 40-80 then the higher ones.

I have a right angle drill motor and use 2" velcro pad and discs, plus a similarly fitted non-motorized Sorby. I also sometimes just hand-sand with folded papers. Both tools have their uses, sometimes it just depends on how fast I want to complete the job, how much I like the piece, or the quality of finish I want to achieve.

i have something similar to this. i can't remember the exact name of what i have, it was well more than $ 30 when i got it several years ago. if i find the exact one i'll post it

FWIW - I’m still in the die grinder camp. Looked at the little right angle sanders a few times but haven’t felt the need.
