For roughing out ( emphasis on the word rough) several bowl blanks at a time these Bowl Saver Systems are the ticket. They’ll work on wet or dry blanks. You’ll get a more uniform bowl blank thickness in less time using a bowl saver. Whether using wet or dry wood expect some movement and some prep before mounting for final turning. There is still a tad of waste with using these systems. Requires some thought before using too!
More familiar with Mc Naughton Center Saver, and not sure if Packard carries that system. Provided several blanks and got a class from a friend. He had a General 260, 220-230V lathe 1980's vintage. He moved away couple years back, he loved his Mc Naughton system. We got about 10 to 15 useable blanks that weekend. We cut them 1" to 3/4" thick, and set aside to dry. He sealed all of his with anchor seal.
Oneway Easy Core System has a huge following too! We have a mutual friend that has one and swears by it.
Even though been awhile since use the Mc Naughton would have no problem recommending it. May have a few more options than Oneway for less cost. I also like the Oneway Easy Core System even though seems tad more expensive. Don’t know anyone with the Woodcut Bowl Saver system.
Why don’t I own one of these great tools? Don’t turn enough bowls to make it worth while. If had more money than time would definitely buy a Mc Naughton set up.
