Just have to permanently mount the challenge coin. A couple of drops of epoxy should do it. The bowl is ~14" dia. cherry burl. The black insert is sapele dyed black with printers ink. I mixed a little of the ink with Titebond to make black glue. Finish is Howard's Feed-n-Wax. It really makes the cherry pop, IMHO.
C&C welcome.

Coming next ~15" diameter. Much higher pucker factor. Wait for it.

Beautiful piece! Excuse my ignorance, but what is a challenge coin and what is the piece to be used for?

The rest of the story. Before I left ECU we had had challenge coins stamped for the ECU Engineering program. I had a student give me 3 really nice cherry burls and he wanted one of the coins inset into a bowl. Took a while but I'm going to deliver this bowl, hopefully this weekend.

Maybe I'll be able to finish the 'mother' bowl today from one of the burls; the one I made the most corings from. I'm down to final sanding. Pics to come.
