Book Advice Needed

I am thinking about doing some craft projects which would combine scroll sawing with relief carving. One problem: I know absolutely nothing about relief carving or carving in general. Can someone recommend an elementary book on relief carving? Thanks.

Thanks for the information. I have ordered the Manual of Traditional Woodcarving. If there isn't sufficient information on relief carving I'll research some of the other books on the list. Unfortunately our library system here has nothing really basic on the subject.

I as well know nothing of wood carving but I recently purchased "relief carving in wood a pratical intro" by Chris Pye and I have found it to be very informitive as well as easy to understand.

I also find most anything Chris Pye has written to be very beneficial and readable. I've just started reading Nora Hall's book and it has been very interesting so far. Need to read some more to determine how useful it will be, but I have expectations that it will be very good.

Both authors also have DVD's out that are extremely useful. Chris has a web-site with lessons available for a modest price.
