Hi Guys,

Having just installed my new $80 Lowes Bies..the first thing I needed to do was cut some 1/2" tenons for a floating panel frame with a dado set.

That means the right side blade has to be "touching" the fence ( actually you want it a hair inside the fence face)...so I stuck on a piece .060" thick x 0.50" UHD sticky back I got for wood on wood slides. It worked OK but what I want is a wood face thats the same..or close to the height as the Bies.

I was thinking of just screwing on a 1/2" thick chunk of maple( jointed and planed flat) with countersunk screws...but I hate the idea of drilling holes in the Bies.

Any thoughts..suggestions would be great.

Don I have made a sacrificial fence that is basically a three sided box that fits very tightly over the fence. The first use I raise the blade up into it and make me an appropriate sized cut-out. There are also fence clamp systems where you bore a hole in the top of your sacrificial fence board and use it to clamp to your fence -

Or you could use a miter gauge and block clamped to the fence just before the blade to set your stock at the same distance from the dado stack and not need to bury the stack in the fence. That would be the best way to do a tenon cross cut.

I did what Dave did, but went one step further. I drilled a hole in the top of the 3 sided box and the biesemeyer, tapped the hole in the fence, and use a threaded knob to keep it secure.

Tom, that's where I got the picture from. I don't have a set myself, but they seem to be all the rage lately.

Thanks All,

DaveO..I ordered them on-line today from Rockler..couldn't find them in the catalog.

They cost all of $14.99 (plus, plus, plustax, shipping etc.)...so actually about 20 bucks. Looks like a good idea.:icon_thum

Ordered 2 pairs yesterday. Makes way too much sense. Plan to use them for stops and for the fence.

Did Rockler charge you sales tax? They no longer have a physical presence in NC. Just wondering. These clamps are $13.49 in their "pro catalog.

I have seen them.
But maybe I am missing something.
Why are these any better than just a couple of clamps?

I am sure that there must be a reason that they are all the rage. I just have not figured it out yet.

convenient, and out of the way. If cutting a taller piece, the clamp may get in the way

You can get by with building a u shaped piece to fit over the top, but I will say they are convenient and quick. Need a new sacrificial fence cut a board and drill two holes.

Don, I second Daveo's suggestion, I did the exact same thing using Rockler clamps on my Delta T-2 fence, works great, also made a cut off stop block at the same time. eezlock
