Well,
I just made the commitment to purchase the jointer below and I will be picking it up this afternoon. It is a 12" Crescent and I believe it is a 1920 vintage. I checked it out yesterday and it looks to be in very good shape except for some surface rust on the beds and it also needs a motor. This will be a rehab project but should be mighty sweet when back in shape.

Dang, that sure it nice. That is a significant amount of iron ya got there. Ought to be a fun rehab project.

Hey... wait a sec... looks like that blade guard is broken! On second thought, you really shouldn't buy that piece of junk! I'm just looking out for your best interest. Where did you say that thing was located again?!?!?

Wow! Do it fast, I want to rent time on it:lol:
Oh, I think you've used the wrong ship classification. That's an Aircraft Carrier, if I ever seen one:lol:

Hey Steve,

Great find!

I sure would want to be positive about where to locate it in my shop when unloading. Wouldn't want to move that sucker more than once  I don't think I have enough friends to move something that big.

But when are you going to find the time for the rehab if you're slaving away on your rocker?

Enjoy!!

My concern was the "when" too but this was one of those opportunities I couldn't pass up. Even if it sits for a little while, I won't feel bad. The liklihood fo replicating this deal down the line is pretty slim.

Insom, there is a piece missing off of the blade guard but it is still functional. The spring is even in tact.

Well, you certainly SUCK!

But we don't have to worry about a gloat for a while
It's gonna take some work to make all that rust shine

Great find,

Definitively disgusting. A 12 inch jointer? That will be one sweet machine when you get it going. Good luck getting it going and getting a HUGE motor. You going single phase or 3 phase?

Actually thinking of bringing it current with the rest of the modern aircraft carriers, it will be nuclear.

It is home now, safe and sound and McRabbet even helped unload it, broken wrist and all. The sucker is a beast but in amazing shape. The guy I got it from even sent me home with about 50 bd ft of red and white oak.

Well Steve is right, it is a battleship and it may need a nuclear reactor to operate -- You've all heard of "3 men and a boy" or "one-armed paper hangers", but today it was two guys with 3 hands moving the beast off Steve's trailer into his shop. Steve had gotten both tables and the fence off (exposed the parallelogram table adjustments) to reduce the weight by maybe 40% -- good thing there was no motor, too! We skid the base unit (probably 5-600 pounds, maybe more) down the ramp of his trailer (covered the mesh with 1/4" plywood) and then lifted each end onto a heavy duty furniture dollie (WG take note). Piece of cake from there into the shop, back off the dollies and docked without a hitch. In recognition of a successful berthing, we cracked the caps on some Newcastle Ale!

I'm sure Steve will snap plenty of pics of "her" time in drydock. Darn, those dollies were heavy!
