Hope this is OK to ask here, after 3 days of snaking out a drain, decided I want to Remove those Dang Popup drain things and replace with stainless steel strainers.
If I am on the right track, do I simply unscrew the 'Lever' in the tailpiece, pull Lever out, Remove Popup, then put Lever back, and re tighten fitting back?
Thanks in advance

That shold work, so long as the lever is tightened properly (no leakage). The issue may be finding a strainer that mounts in the existing drain hole.

Your plan is accurate for removing the pop-up. I am not sure how you will integrate the new screen after the pop up is removed. Another option: replace the tailpiece assembly including drain cover with a grid screen model. If you search for "1 1/4 grid strainer” you’ll find different options for finish, overflow capable, etc.

for example:

ignore the “pop up drain" heading.

Thanks all, unscrewed the compression nut, slid the lift mechanism out, pulled popup out, replaced lift and compression nut, threw popup away....stainless steel strainer....runs better than it ever has.
