When I bought my Delta 14" bandsaw a few years ago, I got a free riser block in the deal. The riser has been sitting to the side since I didn't really know how or if it would help. The more I read these days about resawing, I see people mentioning this accessory. So... I was wondering if anyone had opinions on whether this is a good update for my saw. Once you install it do you leave it on or is it just for specific uses? Pardon my simple questions :-? .

I've gotten much more use out of my saw since installing the riser .. so I'd say "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?"

Just remember you'll need all new blades though!

I installed the riser on my when I initially put it together, so I don't know what it's like without one, but I keep it on all of the time and it gets plenty of use.

Good Luck Bob.

Adding a riser block pretty much a one time modification.

Having help with lifting, holding, and aligning everything up a real plus.

and the patience to set it up right.

Yep!

And yep!

My experience with adding riser to Powermatic 14" was not good, although others on this site (SteveD for one) had no problems. Last week I was perusing wood mags in Barnes & Noble and came across a BS review (Fine Woodworking IIRC). The article stated the PM was the only model they were unable to get wheels coplanar, even after shimming wheels :-(

That said, when it works the added height really adds versatility and value to a BS. And the 105" blades are only a few dollars more than the 93" :icon_thum

It is good to have if you are resawing over 6" inches. Unfortunately, none of your blades will work with the attachment installed. You have to go to 105" blades. I would wear out every small blade I have on hand before making the switch.

Bob install it man, you can always remove it if you don't like it but if you don't install it how will you know if you like it?

Thanks guys. I'm definitely going to do it. I actually picked up some 105s the other day. The downside is I may no longer be able reach the blade tensioning knob when I'm done .

I see a stool rising before the band saw rising. :rolf:

No no no no - cream rises to the top, not stool.

That's actually an interesting thought. Someone should put together a design on building some kind of step using nothing but a bandsaw, the last project before you install the riser block.

Bas.
