Need Advice At-Home Sterilization Kiln

Hi all,

I'm looking for some reviews/advice from anyone who has built a sterilization kiln (for finishing air-dryed lumber). I have a significant amount of air-dryed wood that I'd like to be able to sterilize for insects before bringing them in for builds or selling. Most of this is down to 10-12% MC, and I just want to make sure any insect inhabitants get evicted before building with it. I don't intend to ever use this to fully dry lumber from freshly-sawn green wood.

I'd like to be able to sterilize up to 200 bdft of 8/4 10' long material at a time, preferably with an electric, 110V heat source. If anyone has DIY'd one of these and can share their experience, that'd be great.

This is a good video of how to go about it. Looking at 3-500 bucks depending on how you do it.

Good luck

Jon,, the November 2008 issue of FWW had an article about a home built sterilization chamber. Attached is a copy of the article.

This is a great idea. I could definitely use something like this before drying the big batches.
