Ordered some Ash from Dean Hardwoods Friday (see Ad at right). Had it milled S4S 15/16" X 3" X 10.' "Chad" priced it by the pc @ $13.34 ea. Picked it up today; the stuff was clean & straight with minimal imperfections. A good deal. I'll be back.

happy WWing,

The dimensions (~1"x3"x10') can't be right, can they ? I get 2.5 bf per stick.

At $13.34/stick, that's $5.35/bf

For example, the Hardwood Store has it in 4/4 (rough) for $3.65/bf.

Hi Mark,

To get the 15/16" thickness I mentioned, 5/4 stock was needed (1-1/4" thick).

To get a full 3" width, you cannot retreive 4 boards from a 12" width. Sometimes retreiving 3 - 3" wide boards from a 10" width (9-1/4" net) often is not possible.

The price also included S4S milling - planed to thickness and edges relatively smooth (gang-ripped). The important thing here is that they were straight. Milling typically adds 25 cents per BF (+/-).

Again, the stuff was clean & straight with no imperfections requiring further loss of material.

Hope this helps to clarify.

Ah - you're getting the stuff milled to spec.

All I'll say is The Hardwood Store (for example) seems to have competitive prices on 5/4, S4S with a 20% waste factor added in. ;-) - but if you've already got a good supplier it can be wise to stick with them.

-Mark, and letting go of this thread now
