I just thought I'd share an image of a model I made today. It's based on a desk from the early 1900s. I think they must have had tough shins in those days.



I'm thinking about doing plans for this piece.

Beautiful design! I have always liked that type of desk with the open bookshelves. The endpanels for them are striking. I use a payroll desk with a vertical crossbar underneath and you either sit up straight or sit cocked to the side. Makes for a stronger unit, but it is uncomfortable. Appreciate you posting it.

I expect this sort of desk would have been used to dash off a note or reply to an RSVP for a party. I suppose the user would probably sit up straighter and more on the front edge of the chair than I tend to do. That would keep shins away from the stretcher. I could see this with taller legs to make it a stand up desk and then the stretcher could be a foot rest if you were sitting on a stool.
