Re: Arrgggg...what have I got myself into

I wonder if you will still be the top poster when you finally get done, or is this going to allow you to be passed. Better get the elves typing for you.

Dave,

Good luck. I did one about 7 or 8 years ago.

Keep us posted on the progress. Remember the time changes next weekend so you will have plenty of light. :gar-La;

Dave,

I put up one of the ones from BJ's for my girls when I got here in 2005, thank the lord my FIL came down for a visit after I started, or it would still be in piles in my yard. But the worst thing is that my kids hardly use it...back in NJ they were always on these things, once they have one in their yard ....it's over:BangHead: . If you need any help Dave, I'm right around the corner:icon_bigg.

Look at the bright side: Most of us order these things in December and try to put them together Christmas Eve!! However, you only have 18 days 'til Spring, so best get hoppin"!! Daylight savings kickin' in next Sun will add another "day" of light, tho.

Let's see, 1000 pieces, probably 200 subassemblies, 50 medium assemblies, 20 major assemblies, and pictures of each. I see the potential for 11,000 posts by 1 April, elves or not!!

I can empathize, tho. "Grampa, will you build me..." is only trumped by "Daddy, will you..."

Go -- I've sure heard those words more than once -- ironically, LOML said to me this morning that she was clipping out a picture of the same set that DaveO is building, complete with the words "You should build one of these for your grandson, you know..."

Lots of work, definitely, but I think you're going to love putting that thing together! :)

The picture is a complete fraud do. I count 9 kids and two adults. Now, while it's technically possible that this couple had 9 kids, there is NO WAY they would have had the energy to put it together :) Plus, three kids going down the slide without one trying to crash into the other two? And everyone is happily playing together (I want the slide! No it's my turn! Mooooommmm!

And you've already made great progress! The good thing is, as you complete each subassembly there are fewer choices for the next component. Build time decreases exponentially. Hope the instructions aren't too much like particle board furniture instructions.

And remember, if you need help, Jimmy is right around the corner :rolf:

Honestly Honey, that will cost around $100 $150 $200, and I need a few more tools. :eusa_danc
I just noticed that! What, inflation? Festool aspirations? :)

As the father of two girls I had my share of "for the girls" projects so I can empathize. Don't forget to add "playset assembly" to your list of landscaping services offered. :wwink:

Dave,

I feel your pain. Recently, I volunteered  to go over and put together an entire office worth of pre-packaged furniture for a lady. Luckily, it was all made by the same manufacturer so after putting together the first piece, I learned what all of the little do-hickies were and got to skip over most of the directions for the rest of it. :icon_thum Still it took me two days to get it all together. However, if I hadn't taken my bolt cutters and cut the end off of the provided allen wrench (and put it into my drill), it would've taken me two weeks. :BangHead: A project like that is VERY frustrating, but if you have good directions, it is much better. Best of luck to you! I'm sure the little one will love it. :icon_thum

Updated for the next weekend. After about 16 hours of work over the last two days, it's starting to look like something.

And this is all I have left to work with :-D:-D:-D

Playset_010.jpg

Just the swings, and the slide and I am done :eusa_danc:eusa_danc:eusa_danc

My daughter is so excited, I've been chasing her away all day.

A lot of work but hearing her tell me "Daddy, it's lookin' good" is worth it :icon_thum

Looks great. I'll bet construction was simple compared to finding the pieces and matching the hardware.

Hey Dave make sure you read the last part of the instructions bet it will say something about re-tightening the fasteners periodically. I put one of those monsters together when my kids were young. They loved it and was well worth the time and effort to build and maintain. When my kids out grew it - I loaded it on trailer and gave it to a younger couple who's kids are enjoying it just as much as mine did.

I started work both days around 10:00 AM, I didn't have any rain, but Saturday the wind was ridiculos. I started out working in a T-shirt on Saturday and ended up with long-johns and a hooded sweatshirt...boy the temps dropped. Today I took a advantage of the the longer daylight and worked until around 6:30.
I so wanted to get it all done, but I just couldn't:sad1:.
