Arrgggg...what have I got myself into...Updated

My wife and daughter have been wanting a play-set for awhile. Last summer I just didn't have the money to do it. This year the pressure is on. I really wanted to build one myself and make it the way I thought it should be. But after crunching the numbers I realized that I couldn't buy the lumber, fasteners and swing/slides etc. for what I could get a kit for. This weekend my wife ran across a sales flyer from Toys-r-Us showing this set -

It was on sale for a little over $1000 (with some creative financing). So I rushed out and picked it up. I was happy to find out that the kit only weighted around 600# and it was in stock. So I was able to haul it home in my little truck.
Here's what I've got to work with -

There is literally a 1000 peices to this kit. They aren't packaged in the boxes in any logical assembly order, nor labled as to what they are. I had to find the specs of each piece and dig through the boxes to find something that looks like it and verify the measurements. Then I had to dig through bags of fasteners to find the right ones to assemble the peices..I've got screws and bolts sized from 1¼" to 3" in ¼" increments from ¼ - ¾" in diameter, along with their cooresponding nuts, washer and lock washers :5eek:
Well I still couldn't buy the lumber and materials for this thing as cheap and the instructions are well done.

So I spent about 5 hours today getting it home and unloaded and starting to put it together -

And this is what we have so far 8-O If y'all don't see me around for awhile you should know I am building the dang play-set :new_shock

ohhhhhh.... lucky you. I helped my neighbor put a similar model together last summer. It was from BJs. We did it in a weekend. You should have fun .....:BangHead:

Boy, Dave. Looks like you have your work cut out for you. Of course, you could just have your elves do it while you casually supervise:beer_yum::beer_yum::beer_yum:.

That is a very decent price for that set.We got ours from Costco last year.The one tool I wished I had to assemble it was an impact driver.But other than they are easy to put up...but a pain trying to locate all the correct parts.

Looks like fun DaveO, maybe by the time you figure out the directions and get it built my daughter can come over and play.

If you want to see some fun playsets, check out the back room of BabyUSA (or whatever it is called) next to Toys-r-Us in Crossroads. They have some seriously expensive playsets there. When we were shopping for cribs and stuff, I almost snuck back there while my wife was debating periwinkle vs blue and climbed up them.

Jeremy, I think you still got time before that asking becomes beggin'...then there goes the tool budget.
So far, from what I've experienced with this kit I would recommend it...if you got a lick of sense and some basic tools.

Yea, that was just a pipe dream of my wife's. It turns out that she can't find decent work in the area, so we're staying put for a while. But hey, this thing came in a few boxes, it can go back into a few boxes if needed.
Not that I would ever want to do that :cussing::cussing:

Did I hear someone say an impact driver was a new tool requirement for this here project!?:icon_thum

Of course you will need to haul in some rubber mulch or sand to protect from falls! You can't just empty your DC under her swing set!

Your obviously doing your job. Being a GREAT DAD!!!
