Hello! Just found this wonderful site yesterday. After spending hours reading most of the posts, decided to join. I am fortunate to live on beautiful Lake Gaston. My wife and I were going to retire here. After buying the house, we couldn't stand just visiting on weekends. We moved here full-time 12 years ago. I am a systems analyst in the laser printing industry. Commute to Raleigh part time and work from home part time. I built a 3 car garage with a 24x24 double bay for cars???? and 16x30 single bay shop area. Looking forward to retirement in a few years. I bought most of my equipment at Woodcraft in Raleigh, while I could still afford it:eusa_pray . Tom was very helpful in choosing the right stuff. Mostly Delta with a few Dewalts, Porter Cables. Haven't built many projects YET. Hopefully, with a little help from my new friends here:eusa_danc , I'll get plenty of advice on HOW to do it! Looking forward to participating in what appears to be a very lively group:icon_thum

Welcome to the site. Plenty of helpful people on this site. Lake Gaston is a beautiful area. I can see why you decided not to wait for retirement to move there. I also bought several "toys" from Woodcraft in Richmond when I lived in VA.

Welcome Randy, I am glad that you decided to join us. I've done some landscaping work around Lake Gaston, it is a very nice area. Tom at the Raleigh Woodcraft is a great guy and very knowledgable about what he sells, he is also a member here, which is a nice perk. I look forward to your input in the forums and seeing some of your work. See you around!!!!
Dave:)

Randy,
Welcome to the site, it's good to have you here. We're all picture junkies so post some pictures of your shop, etc. when you have a chance. I think your priorities are a little backwards in space allocation in that new garage though.

Welcome aboard, Randy! Wow, beautiful lake setting, big empty garage, new tools, must be heaven! Look forward to seeing you around the site -- don't be shy about asking for help anytime -- and you've got a closeby member in Lorraine (lwhughes149, I think) who also lives "up" there -- I live "out" here in the western part of the state (you're "up", I'm "out" makes you wonder who lives "down" there or even "over" here!). Post some pictures and enjoy making chips and dust!

Another WELCOME here. :-D

All this up and down and here and there stuff is easily resolved by checking out our members map and placing your "balloon" here.

Why Not?

Hi Randy, glad to meetcha.

Nothing like the problem of filling big spaces with cool tools. Keep your mind buzzing long after you hit the sheets with intentions on sleeping.

Youre in the right place for info.

That's easy. Just offer to build her something and then say oops when you have to buy a bunch of new equipment to do it. :icon_thum:icon_thum:icon_thum:icon_thum

There are always plenty of escuses.

Cathy and I should have a talk with her. Maybe we could help her get her priorities straight. A warm welcome to the site. There is a great bunch of folks here.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm looking forward to learning from the experts here. Who knows, maybe someone can come up with answers to LOML's questions. For example: Why can't we park the cars in the garage? Why do you need more than one router? Why so many clamps? Won't ONE chisel be enough?, etc, etc. Anyone?
