 Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and thought I would say hi to everyone. I'm very new to wood working , but I'm very excited to learn. A bit about me. I'm 43yo. married with 4 kids, 2 boys, 2 girls. I've lived and worked all my life in Western NC. My father was a master carpenter and wood worker. Growing up I never paid attention to my dads work. Building houses was just not my thing, I thought. "Dummy"!!! I missed out on more knowledge than I could ever absorb. My father passed away about 3yrs ago. I am getting ready to retire from my job for medical reasons and have started doing some small projects at home. I have found my passion. My dad must have fed me saw dust when I was little. Well, I have very limited tools and even more limited knowledge. I hope you guys will welcome me into your group and I hope to meet and get to know some of you. Until then see you on the net.

Welcome, I think that you will find lots of information here as you learn your new passion. Craftsmanship can run in the blood. If you hang around here long enough to catch the not so dreaded Woodguy disease your tool shortage will end, but wallet shortage will begin. Please feel free to ask about anything that you want to know, there are no stupid questions around here. See you around!!!

Dave:)

Welcome welcome welcome. I too, and doing my best to infect my 3 1/2 year old. He can name all of my tools, and knows how they are used. I have to keep everything unplugged. Glad you found us. You'll find many good people here.

Kevin,

Welcome to the group. I live just up the road in Horse Shoe and there are a few other locals here too. In fact, we are working on starting a local woodworking club to meet periodically and share excuses for buying tools. Let me know if you would like to learn more. I'm sure McRabbet will chime in soon and share details on the list he is compiling.

Kevin, welcome aboard, I am glad you could join us. I think you will find your time spent here on NCWW worthwhile, informative and entertaining. There are a fair number of our members that live in Western NC and they are trying to put together a WW club which I am sure you will be hearing more about. I look forward to reading your input to our forums.

Welcome Kevin, from a fellow Hendersonville resident! You'll find this to be a great place to learn and share info -- I've lived here 2 years and have been a member of the NC WW site since early November. Ask for a Photo Gallery (under Other Links) and also return there to click on User Control Panel. When that screen opens, select Group Memberships on the lower left of your screen and request to join the Western NC Woodworkers Club Interest Group. Several of us are trying to put together a club to meet and greet regularly. Other members in the area will chime in, too -- Steve D lives in nearby Horse Shoe and Ozzie-x lives in Clyde.

Glad to have you on board. Rob

Hi Kevin - welcome to the site! Stoneskippers and I live in Forest City, kind of in your neck of the woods. I know that you will find a lot of useful information on this site. Feel free to ask anything - there's no such thing as a dumb question. We range in skills from professional to newbies. Please add yourself to the member map, request a photo album (we LOVE pictures) and join the western ww'ing group. Again, welcome.

Welcome to our site. This a great place to learn and share. Keep your eye out for classes being offered by memebers. I will have a couple additional classes running out my shop in the near future besides the Rocker class. The first one will be "Making a Krenov style handplane". The second one I think could be helpful for a lot of the guys is "hand plane refurbishment, from rust to shavings". I think Monty could be a coinstructor for that one. :D

Welcome aboard,

John

I promise, visiting my shop won't infect you with WG disease. :eusa_liar

Hi and welcome Kevin,
I hail from farther east, Sampson co.

I was afflicted with the woodguy disease when I was only a critter, playin with limbs I found around the yard. Been making things from the wood ever since and I am 47 now.

I hope to do this all day, as I will be leaving my job after 23 yrs too next week. My passion is on the lathe so if you need any info on turning I am happy to offer my opinions.

Glad you found this site, its really a wonderful mecca of woodworking info.
