We've got another confrontational post in the Turning symposium thread. I'm going to put the two posts in moderation and close the thread if everyone is in agreement. The main post is from Wildwood about Eagle near the end of the thread.

Let me know.

Thanks,

Right now the two posts are in moderation and the thread is still open.

Mike,

I agree with your action. This one doesn't even seem to be questinable... The comment to Eagle is too sharp and his response is equally so. I think it would be better if those who are offended by a post, to contact a mod or admin and let us handle the situation. Sharp responses just continue the problem and perhaps inflame feelings.

Good call / catch, Mike

Thanks Ray. I think it will be better to just close the thread. I've already PM'd Wildwood to let him know that his post was confrontational and to please refrain from that in the future.

We've had more work this week, than in the past 6 months...

On my other forum, I do more than this every night. Those folks are wild!

Usually have to ban 1 or 2 a week.

I sure hope we never come to that. Since we are focused on one topic and have been doing the appropriate housekeeping, we may be able to stay ahead of that

We may have to give you a promotion Mike . . . good work! I couldn't help but notice both of the confrontational posts were made in the AM. Guess folks are just grumpier in the mornings

Roger (who isn't likely to be online in the AM )

I appreciate you all jumping on this. I miss all the hard work - not that I'm complaining. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Cathy. I didn't want to step on any toes, but I also didn't want to let it go any further.

I agree, but think it's a shame that we can't have the discussion about art, craftsmanship, different ways of learning. I watch John design the coffee table (among many other things) and am just in awe of the way he sees things - conventionalizes, sees in 3d. I need a pattern. I'm better at modifying someone else's idea than I used to be, but am completely not original. He's an artist, I'm a scroller. Oh well, that kind of discussion will always lend itself to more heated exchanges than are good for the site.

I think that would be a great discussion. My wife and I are just the same. I can ...well, I can only see things in my mind in full color, motion, 3-D.

My wife sees everything in words, or rather she thinks in words.

We talk about it all the time. It took years to come to the realization that we actually do think differently. When she designs something she has to talk it out and write a description of it. When I design I grab a piece of wood and start cutting. Or I get a piece of paper and make lots of sketches. I was trained as a draftsman and I can force myself to draw technical blue prints, but I think in the round, I see the insides of things and instinctively know how they work. My wife is an excellent artist and designer and we often agree on how something should be or look but we just go about getting there via very different routes.

I think a lot of people are like that and don't know it. If you don't use the same words to describe things or you can't describe things then people think you can't do it or don't understand it. In reality you may have a deeper grasp on the subject but from a different angle.

Yes, I think this is an excellent conversation!

I agree. This would be a very interesting topic to start and watch closely. ;-)

I think like Mike does. I have to have a drawing or picture. When I'm learning new roads I have to see it on a map or Google Earth and then I visualize myself and the road from above.

Who wants to kick the topic off? Cathy?
