An interesting little experiment.

My latest project is a smallish Urn made from Aspen and laminated craft paper. Finished with Lacquer.

The lid and the base are made from black construction paper (120+ sheets for the lid and about 80 sheets for the base) and the feature ring is made from red and black paper (About 170 sheets)

The floating bottom has construction paper laminated to it to match the feature ring.

I will be exploring this idea of laminating paper together for future projects.

First off beautiful work!

For the construction paper lid (and other parts) I’m guessing you’re laminating the 120+ sheets together into a solid, then tuning (lathe) that solid into its final shape?

What’s your method / product for laminating all the paper together?

I used Epoxy. Basically soaked each piece and layered them together. Very time consuming, very messy but the results were so cool I am going to experiment with this more.

As they said on the A-Team,”love it when a plan comes together.” Looking forward to your other experiments.

Jay - that’s very cool.

why did you pick laminated construction paper over solid wood?

-Mark
Was literally just an experiment.

My thought was that when laminating the paper together with epoxy you can get any color you want, it will not expand or contact with seasonal humidity changes and you can get designs that you could never get with wood.

But it started as a question “I wonder what would happen if……”

NEAT concept / experiment.
I wonder what would happen if you crumpeled that paper, perhaps differing colors perhaps...

Yep, makes sense to me.

I’ve started many a project with “I wonder what would happen if..”. Some of them were even successful :)
