Amazons Delta Planer

They have a Delta for 199 and a grizzly for 225. Any thoughts on them? They're 12 1/2" 2hp planers.

I have the $199 Delta model. For what I used it for it was fine. But if you plan on running any amount of Board feet through it, I'd go with an upgraded model. I hear good things about the Dewalt. 735 , I think is the model number? About $450ish. I also read you really need the wings you can buy for it though. Several people on this site have that model and can provide better feedback on that Dewalt.

Far as the delta, if you use it sparingly, it will do the job. If you want to run long boards, and lots of them, go with something else with more beef between the buns.

Andy, I would consider the Delta on price basis alone. They look very similar in their specs, but add in the shipping charge from Griz and you have almost a $300 planer from them, where as you can pick up the Delta at Lowe's. The only problem I can see with that Delta is the unavailability of a dust hood. So buy a big shovel and wheelbarrow, planers make a huge mess, BTDT.

Good point Dave on the dust hood. When I got my planer at first, I didn't have a dust collector, and said to myself.. I'll just live with it. Well... the mess is huge, and the airborn particles, probally well.. I just dont' want to think about it.

I have one of the Delta $199 planers thats a few years old I'm getting ready to upgrade.
If you're looking for one let me know.
You can try it out with your cherry boards if you're interested to see how they work.
I just planed the same stock with it. It does a reasonable job.
Noisy and like was posted before....messy.
They do work nicely as long as you're not running 6/4 or bigger.
