It has just come to my attention for some people the food at that El Dorado, the Mexican stop for lunch on the crawl, may not meet dietary restrictions for some of the crawlers. I undertand that there is a Golden Corral and a Dick's Barbeque near Crossroads.

I am open to further suggestions. We should provide a couple of options for the crawl. We're burnin' daylight, so please respond with your ideas.

Didn't someone say their wife was making brownies? :rolf:
Ok not the best lunch either. There is a plethera of eating establishments in that area. Across Walnut from the center where Dick's BBQ is there is a Red Robin (Burgers) and Sweet Tomatoes (decent buffet of green stuff if the people you are talking about want something healthy). There is another place right there, but I've never been there, so I don't know the name and can't recommed it.

Personally I was looking forward to the place everyone had talked about going to because I have never been there. (Always an adventure). I'll eat wherever my ride is going....I'm not picky. Rarely have I met a food I didn't like.

There is a Subway, a burger place and a Greek (well, more Mediterranean) restaurant in the same strip mall as the Mexican place. I advise against Crossroads on Saturday, traffic is pretty bad and there is always the danger we lose some crawlers to the Lowe's and Home Depot there..... :)

There is a Chili's on Kildaire Farm Road, and there are also a couple of places (including a TGI Friday's) at Waverly Place, which is where the Wal-Mart is (corner of Kildaire/ Tryon Road). All the places I mentioned are within 3 minutes of El Dorado.

Not sure how well any of those places can accomodate a group of 25+ people though. I have no strong preference - I like all these places.

The Mediterranean place is called Mythos ... the font they used for their sign is kind of funky. I passed by there once and thought it was a Mexican place because I read it "Muchos". Never actually ate there because LOML is a very picky eater, so I don't know what the food is like, but thought I'd share my story.

I've been there once, it was pretty good food, but since they had just opened, service was a little slow. BTW, I read it as "Mypos" - for those that remember cousin Larry and Balki "don't be ridikulos"

As long as we have options by the time we are ready to leave for lunch that should be fine. We do not have to all go to the same place. 25+ people cannot sit at the same table anyway (unless we build out own! :widea:). I agree with Bas that we should keep thing near one another so we do not lose people and to stay on time.

:eusa_prayPlease, please. please, please......No Golden Corral. They have a large variety, but...it all tastes the same, not very good. I am not trying to start an arguement, but if some body can tell that they acyually LIKE it...then they don't get out often. I'm easy mexican, italian, barbebue (eastern or western), burgers, dogs, bird seed....anything but Golden Corral.

Thank you,
Jimmy :)

I'm not familiar with all the choices in that neck o' the woods, but perhaps someone who has familiarity will consider the logistics of feeding 25 hungry men with varied tastes and needs in food.

Although Jimmy cast his veto for the GC, the buffet method of line-up, each pay, each serve self whatever is desired or acceptable, then leave would allow more time for viewing GRRRRippers and less waiting for an overwhelmed waitperson to screw up 25 orders.

Locals, please weigh in before we have a rhubarb over the rhubarb.

Well, that's why I suggested El Dorado. It's right smack in between two shops. The place seats 125 people (packed during the week, mostly empty on the weekend), quick, cheap, lots of choices, and I've been there with groups of 15 and never had an order screwed up.

But, I understand people have specific dietary requirements/ restrictions. I suggest these folks either visit one of the places in the same plaza. I'd also be happy to take them to one of the nearby restaurants I mentioned previously. But I say stick with the original plan for the majority of the group. It would be more fun to all sit together, but there will be plenty of socializing during the actual shop visits.

I don't think I've ever eaten at a Golden Corral, so no strong objections there. In that same location there is also a Carolina Ale House, but it is likey to be PACKED with basketball munchers this Saturday. Also a Panera bread, but seating a group this large may be tough.

Anyway, that's my $.02.

I eat any and everything, so my preference is to go where the majority are going and can seat as many of us together as possible.

Having given this some thought after my initial post, I believe that my bud and champion ClearVue installer FredP has the right idea. I'm bringing a peanut butter sandwich (Tom... low cal and good fat, lots of protein, highly recommended for the next size down in kilts). If we stop at a good place, I'll toss the pnutbtr sandwich.

Honestly, I thought GC was a great idea. And JimmyC, I absolutely adore the pot roast there.

But then, I'm a dumb southern boy. Shucks, we like fried chicken, pig cooked any way you want to, hushpuppies, beans, turnips greens and collards. GC has great stuff that aren't on my diet, but what the heck, a crawl is like being on vacation. Ain't it?

Jim,

Nothing personal, but I don't think any of it has any flavor. I've eaten there at least a dozen times, because I've gotten hoodwinked by large groups that like to eat big portions of food, no matter the taste. After trying many things there, I will only go on Mon. and Fri. nights because they have the shrimp specials, which are good, I also will eat the fried chicken which is okay. But generally speaking, I would rather eat at any fast food place, if timing is the problem, because there food just tastes better, to me.

Jimmy:)

Maybe someone in the Cary area can lead us to another type of buffet. I'm not picky, but I'd rather eat at Tractor Supply than GC:lol:.

Fred,
If you're gonna have a cold beer, you need some bowls of sorghum and black oil sunflour seeds as a snack, yummmmm!:eek:ccasion1

Heck after a few cold ones I might even enjoy GC:rotflm:.

Okay, to end this, most of us will eat at ElDoarado, anyone who does not find something they can eat there can eat in one of the adjacent establishments.

T minus 12 hours and 57 minutes until the crawl. See ya there!
