Adjusting Miter Saw

I have a Hitachi Slide Compund Miter Saw model 8-1/2 C8FB2 that I can't seem to get square.

I have the booklet that came with the saw but there does not seem to be any adjustment infromation.

I have emailed Hitachi and did not get a reply. The only thing I can figure out to adjust is the angle of the fence.

Ant info or suggestions would be helpful.

:-:)-( I've been looking at that sucker at Lowes. I will monitor your post to see how this comes out. Saw looks good, but nothing like experience.

Larry,

The manual for your saw certainly doesn't help you much (I googled and found it here). What I would suggest is to check the settings of the blade position to the fence in both the vertical and horizontal with a small accurate square. UNPLUG THE SAW. Start with the blade in the normal cross cut position with the bevel setting (behind the saw) set to 0. The blade should be at 90º to the table; if not adjust the stop for the bevel on the back until it is at 90º and the bevel indicator shows that number as 0. Next, check that the left and right sections of the fence lie along the same plane. Place a straightedge across both sections and make sure they are aligned with no gap. Draw a pencil line across the opening to show the edge of the fence. Third, lower the blade and measure the angle of the blade disk (avoid the teeth) with the fence, first to the left of the blade and then to the right with the square laying flat on the table. If the fence on either side is not aligned, loosen the hold downs behind the fence section and move them to align with the pencil line and the square.

Plug the saw back in and try some cuts on a straight 2 x 4 board. Check it with your square and hopefully it will be cut square across and through. Hope this helps.
