Accuride Slide Issue

I have been using Accurate 16" side mount slides (C3834-C16P) for quite awhile. I have at least a dozen drawers installed in my shop using the same slides.
I have one pesky drawer that doesn't want to stay closed. Its an inset drawer that opens and slides closed just fine; but as soon as I walk away it creeps open about 4-6 inches posing a potential tripping issue.

Is there some sort of detant to stop the drawer from magically opening?

All other drawers and slides have been just fine.

Wayne, Make sure the drawer is in fully so the slide locks onto the rubber stop at the rear. I am not sure if these slides are designed that way.
The slides may not be level allowing the drawer to slide back out.
Leave the front of the slides attached where they are on the drawer and cabinet and lower the back ends down 3/16 - 1/4.
Just an idea.

Remove the drawer and check no screws have come loose. If that happens it can get out of level.

I’ve hes that happen to me. I’ve also had drawers mysteriously start opening after many cycles. Those usually have a plastic shield at the back that catches the drawer.

It can just be the slide losing its friction stop.

Depending on the slide you have it may or may not have the detent “in” feature. If it’s like the one in the picture below, the detent “in” feature is the gray piece of plastic. I have also seen that plastic part in a dark gray or black color. One of the colors holds a little better than the other but I don’t remember which one. Our company used to buy 20,000 of these a month. It’s holding power is often weak and inconsistent. At one point they made a batch that didn’t hold well at all and had to replace all the bad parts. In your case I would look to see if it’s engaging or if it is how well is it holding on both sides…if that’s the type of slide you have.

Wayne, If the drawer can't be fixed with any of the solutions above, you might consider installing a cheap magnetic catch of the type usually used on cabinet doors. It isn't a real drawer lock, it just provides a little resistance that will keep the drawer closed. It also has the advantage of not requiring that you disassemble the drawer.

I think your problem shows your cabinet is very well built. One drawer that drifts out is just a out of level glide. The bottom drawers are a little harder so it doesn't take much. Just lower the back end of at least one glide a very small amount. Should be a simple fix.

I had the same problem develop over the past few years with almost all of the Accuride slides in the drawers of the kitchen that I built for our home about 20 years ago. As I looked at the slides I realized that the plastic or rubber pieces that Wilsoncb pictured in his post had deteriorated. Many of them were in pieces at the bottom of the cabinets. I contacted Accuride about obtaining replacements, and they sent me all that I needed, plus more, at no charge. I believe that when I purchased those slides, they had a lifetime guarantee, for whatever that is worth. But to their credit, Accuride stepped up an immediately replaced them. Installing them is easy, takes less than a minute per slide, and problem solved. Hope this helps.

As per “Wilsoncb” and “Mlzetti”, sure enough; the small rubber stops/slide catcher as described and pictured had totally disintegrated over time. Picture of what I found at the bottom of drawer cabinet! I managed to rob replacements from a spare pair of slides I had stored.

I will go on the hunt for replacements. I have had these slides for 10 years plus, so I can see where this material will eventually fail.
