A sled for resawing logs

This was today's project. The people who came to my shop may have noticed the "spalted" logs I have outside my shop (some may be a little too spalted!!!). I built this sled for resawing some of those logs, to see what I can get out of them.

Works like a charm! I built it based loosely on the design outlined in this article from American Woodworker.

That's a nice jig, what came out of those logs??? There was a thread over on WN about someone who sawed up some spalted firewood he found, and got some of the most beautiful boards I've ever seen out of it. Time will tell, if they dry out alright, but they were mighty pretty in the picture after being cut. Dave:)

The first couple of outside layers look about like that. The heartwood is fairly uniform color.

It's a start...

Nice work Insomniac and thanks for the link on the log sled. I conjured up one after getting my BS--now I can see the need to make a real one :roll:
Never thought of putting adjustable hold on front side :BangHead:
