A J_Graham inspired Japanese dozuki

A different set of conversations with Graham regarding hand tools led to this beauty.... Dozuki style pull cut dovetail saw.

This is a proof of concept prototype. I had no idea what I was doing, no plans or internet activity to figure it out, just use what I knew about Western saws. Made from 100% scrap.

I'm just trying to figure out the dynamics of the spine/handle relationship.... which is everything when making a saw. Since I don't own one I didn't have a model to go by so I just went by the seat of my pants.

It came out way better than I expected for first attempt... Other than a few minor expected setbacks associated with the material I was using. But it's straight as a string and I'm sure it'll cut just fine.

Gorgeous! Could you share details about the teeth?
Rip profile...13ppi.....015 plate thickness. It's straight off the retoother at this point. I've got a dozen or so ratchet bars so I can cut just about any pattern up to 13 ppi. There are a couple of higher pitched bars out there... Most notably the 15 PPI.... but they are hard to find and expensive when you do.

I'll create the final profile by hand when I sharpen and likely do progressive rake as well.

After setting (and resetting) the saw, it cuts very well. Honestly, better than expected. The light stoning of the set after each test cut can be seen in the progression from a curved kerf to a straight one. The handle was made with a child's hand in mind so it's much to small for me ... and it shows. But if it cuts that well in 1" poplar it should be fantastic in thinner material.
