A Couple Dutchmen

Currently working at a house where the previous contractor absolutely butchered the door hardware install. Not sure what happened, the other work in the house looks pretty good. New replacement old school mortise locks. For some reason I love messing with these.

Some of you hardcore hand tool guys might cringe at my chisel work. I do better work at a bench than crouching in a doorway, I swear.

If it looks like the rest of the doorway when you are finished (painted) - you did a good job!

Remember, "Caulk, putty, and paint makes a carpenter what he ain't. " I use a HF multitool to remove most of the waste, then with a template and a pattern bit remove it to the line. On each end of existing jamb, cut a rabbet, and matching rabbet of dutchman. Glue and screw dutchman in place, and after about 45 minutes, remove screws. Having maintained rental properties for over twenty years, I've run across this more than once. Tennent forgets keys, or drunken room mate kicks door in

They turned out fine and paint can hide any sin.
