A bunch of bad new registrations

I have deleted most of them. They have been flying in fast and furiously all day, at a much greater rate than I have seen before. It's not the usual "enter 1 in all fields late night spammer". Most of these folks are entering http: as their location and Man as their bio. Several are filling in their fields with pretty foul language. Seeing as they show up on the site as a new member even before they complete their registration it would be a good idea to keep your eye out for them.
Many are getting past the normal zip code moderation safeguard, but not entering a valid zip. There might be a bug running around in that system.
Dave:)

Will do. I'll set up my e-mail program to notify me whenever a new user is added, so I can help with the purging process.

Let me know if you get two e-mail notification for each new register. For some reason I do, and I am not sure if it's me or the code?:dontknow:

I have deleted a ton of them today also. Unfortunately my daytime visits will be limited to Blackberry for a while. It seems that some bored salesmen have spent way too much time on You-Tube and they tightened down on the filtering at work. Just for the time being though I think.

Are there only a few people that see these? I've never seen a registration. I'd be glad to help when I can. :gar-Bi

Look at the new user profile on the right side of any page, click on the user name and you should see the stats of that user. It is easy to tell most of the bogus users, they will have the number 1 in most of the about me fields. You should be able to ban the user so one of the admins can delete the user. They have gotten creative today and are putting things like http, man, and other weird things in the fields.

What I was asking is who get the email notification on a new user registration? I know I've never gotten one as an a moderator.

The webmaster and assistant webmasters get those. Also some of the admins.

I deleted about 6-7 this morning -- some from Russia, Australia and who knows where...

Added Note: I also banned new user "greall" from VA after he posted a thread in the Found for Sale/Hot Deals Forum selling electronics. I soft deleted the thread. I did not delete his user profile pending Steve's input.

I think it's just you. Perhaps your e-mail address is in the list twice. Not sure where to look for that though - more learning fun.

It's like mopping with the faucet still running. I suggest that we keep track of the IP addresses these users come from, and periodically post the list here in this thread. Perhaps we can identify a common set that we can block permanently, and stop the onslaught.
