I rebuilt one of those back in the 1980s. It wasn't as nice and new as yours but I'll bet it was just as heavy. The one I had used those double row spherical race self aligning bearings. They ran in a Velocite mineral oil bath. I removed the Lovejoy and put a pulley on the shaft then mounted a single phase motor below on a welded up bracket. Sweet machine.

Howie, as a matter of curiosity, you mentioned wiring up the motor on your jointer, but a starter was not mentioned. I noticed on Bob's photo of his unit that he had what appeared to be a starter/contactor attached to the front. Will you have such a device on yours as well?

Nice Allen Bradley low voltage starter/disconnect. You don't want to buy one of those new if you can help it.
That's really the best rig for that jointer. With that starter box mounted on the back, the remote will be mounted on the front and won't stick out in the operator's space like the big box I put on my jointer.

Bought it at a Gov. auction, my impression was that it was typical gov. overkill. You are correct, I have been pricing disconnects > $$$.

Isn't that the same way they launch ships in the ocean :D seems fitting for this size jointer
