I purchased a 4" belt/ 6" dis sander by Delta a couple of weeks ago. I was able to sand the legs to the trestle table then the sand paper on the belt started slipping. I have tighted the adjustment in both directions with no result. I have called the Delta rep, no help there either. He says there are no more adjustments that I can make. Before I return this to Lowes and buy a more expensive one would someone have any suggestions? Lorraine

It sounds like the belt has stretched. Have you tried another belt?

You might also check the belt rollers. They could have glazed. You should be able to clean them up some if they have with acetone (finger nail polish remover).

Travis, would a belt stretch in such a short time. I only used it maybe total 30 minures tops. Do I hear the word cheep? Maybe I have purchased something that had no value. And would the rollers glaze over in such a short time? If this does happen to be the problem then this machine isn't worth the trouble. How do I know if it has glazed over? Lorraine

lorraine I have a sander like that made by Delta.
I haven't had that particular problem, but yes the belt could have stretched.
Heck it could be the wrong belt, i guess.
Try another one, if it still does it, take it back.
I have used mine for years and years.
My 6" slips all the time, ( i need to tighten the set screw) but the belt does great. I keep one of those belt cleaners (looks like a big rubber eraser) handy, and hit it with it a couple of times.

It could and it probably is an el cheapo belt. Buy an extra belt say a Norton or 3M and try it. Both Lowes and HD carry them. It should hold up and last for awhile and not stretch until it is unusable. If it works out, I would recommend having a couple of different size grits anyway. If it still acts up, take the new belt and the sander back.

Yep sounds to me like the belt is streched. I've got the craftsman version. Mine slips from time to time. but for me most of the time it's because I'm putting to much pressure on the belt.Your belt may be a name brand but they do have dud's every once in a while. Good luck. Robert.
