Hey Folks-getting ready for a move time to thin out some interesting bits. 1st up is this classic
What you see here is a 1897 B.D. Whitney 30" Bandsaw. probably one of the last ones left. It was originally a line drive machine (leather belt drive). Has been converted to single phase (230V) drive with a 3 HP DAYTON motor 1740 RPM. This thing is whisper smooth-much much better than my Laguna :) It's heavy but it's on a mobile base and moves around if you need too. Currently located in Sparta, NC running and operational in my shop. Includes some spare blades and it has a nice set of Paddock Guides already installed. Use it as is or do a little restoration and make this the showpiece of your shop. Dimensions 55"L x 29"W x 94" T
Price is $600
thanks

Good to hear from you Michael, I was JUST thinking about you the other day.
I was talking with someone about north bennet street school and I said "Hey, I know a guy..." LOL

Are you back home? (North Carolina, or where?)

What is the resaw capacity on this bandsaw? And throat depth. Just close is close enough.

13"resaw capacity and the throat clearance is why I bought the saw--30" of wide open joyous real estate :)

back in NC yes-building again-but very utilitarian stuff right now (my own kitchen currently) but looking forward to getting back to some more interesting type builds like my old posts in a bit. Here's a teaser of what I was doing while away

yep-the ugly gray doors and guards were added in the 1960's. The actual "old iron" part of this machine are gorgeous. The wheels especially represent a n era of manufacturing where beauty was just as important as functionality. My long term goal was to do a simple cosmetic restoration of the saw with black paint and some red pin striping on the wheels and rebuilding the ugly guards with some more form fitting ones and using plexiglass doors top and bottom. But alas....other things are happening and this beauty needs to go to its next caretaker.
