with the added complexity of the 3 way joint I decided to drop the thru tenon to keep the project relatively quick. the mortises were cut with my homemade mortiser, which i've described here: https://ncwoodworker.net/forums/index.php?threads/homemade-mortiser.67583/
The floating tenon is make of plywood since solid wood with have some short grain strength issues on at least 2 of the 3 legs. I drew out the first version of the tenon with dividers and winged it on the bandsaw. it made me realize i needed to be way more accurate. so i started with a square piece of ply and then worked the angles off a reference side on the table saw. it came out okay but i think i need some sort of attachment to a table saw sled much like segmented turners create where i can make the cut, flip it to establish the 3/8 tenon, then turn it 120 degrees with some sort of positive registration. The only issue is that its a stop cut. but those are ideas for the future.
i then dowelled thru the tenon with a bit of brass.
