I am planning to do 4 to 6 segmentation projects that each need a piece of stock about 1' x 1' (can be slightly smaller but I like having wiggle room if there is grain I want to orient into or out of a particular part of the pattern) that is no less than 3/8" and no more than 1/2". Plywood is no good for this as I will be doing some slight contouring (it gets that crazy 60s look with the lines when you contour; very cool for some projects but not these). White pine, spruce or fir would all work well. I may try resawing a piece of cypress I have, but I was hoping to make it less of a project that that. I have the saw capacity, but I haven't doen a full foot before. Anyway, the Borgs have plenty of 1" stuff, but I am not sure who carries the thin stuff locally.

Andy, since most of the BORG white pine is already around 3/4" thick, why not simply make a few passes through a 12" planer to take it down to your final thickness?

Lowe's sells most of the wood they sell also in 1/4" to 1/2" thickness's usually in 36" or 48" lenghts, its not cheap but they have it. :dontknow: Take a look at the poplar.

I have some short 1/2" white pine boards not doing anything other than taking up space, but they're 4-5" wide. I can glue them up into a food wide panel if that would meet your requirements. You're also welcome to run a board through my planer, sure beats doing it by hand :)

Lowe's does carry several varieties of pine in 1/2" thickness, but as James said, probably in longer lengths.

I must not have looked close enough at Lowes. I thought it was all 1", just varying widths and lengths. Is it in the "select" lumber aisle with the "whitewood"? EDIT - Noticed the reference to poplar - that I know they have in thin short pieces, but I don't like it as well for segmentation and, as you mentioned, it is priced a bit high.

I may take you up on the planing offer; I have been meaning to get by to look at the WorkSharp closer. I will see if I have the piece of cypress I think I do. I hope you like oatmeal :) (if you have ever cut/planed cypress, you will understand what I mean).
