This is a finished 19th design Sea Chest made for a client that was out of solid 17" wide curly spalted maple wood, uses copper rosehead nails, hand made becket's for handles and a cedar bottom. Locking mechanism was tricky and used a half mortise German made lock. The dovetails are assembled on an angle and hammered in place with glue. I left out a till that is in the original plans as I hate looking under the box to find something that rolls under.

That's nifty and unique. The choice of materials gives the chest "an already much used" appearance IMHO. Nice job Kyle.

You did a great job with the chest. Your choice of lumber was especially good. I for one want to know more about the rope work on the handles. You should be proud of this one!

Beautiful chest Kyle. The rope work makes me think of my days in the Navy. I was charged with the task of doing all the fancy rope work on the signal bridge. Talk about bored, I managed to snag a copy of the encyclopedia of knots and used to lay in my rack at night and practice different knots. Still remember a few but forgot most. Want to talk about a job, try making about ten feet of McNamara's lace work from a bolt of canvas. Whew, good thing they weren't paying me by the hour. :gar-La;:gar-La;
