I am going to blow my contest GC on vises for my new WW bench during Woodcraft's upcoming "Main Event" sale on Feb 6 & 7.
I have been talking with Herb Shelley who is going to put together a selection for me. The different vises (brands and features) available make it difficult to choose, so...
I ran across the details for this vise the other day and thought I would try it out. Got everything needed at Lowe's for $16.35 including tax. As you can see, it's not for heavy duty stuff but if you have something small, just screw it to the bottom of the small flange and your good to go...
About a year and a half ago Woodwrangler gave me a vise that had been given to him. :icon_thum:icon_thum:icon_thum It has been sitting on the floor of my garshop since then. It was painted a pale green (sage) color, but the paint was chipping off and it just looked bad. I finally worked on it...
Anyone have this $200 pattern makers vise? I'd like some thoughts on the quality. At that price it's MUCH cheaper than similar clones (which are upwards of $600 - $800).
I came across it in a Popular Woodworking August 2002 issue and it caught my eye. Same price today as it was back then...
WoodCraft has a 15% sale coming up next week and I was looking around their site. This looks like a milling machine table device. I could mount it to my drill press table and do some very basic milling functions if it really works. I'm kinda curious about pushing laterally against a spiral bit...

For those of you who have twin screw end vises or are just mechanically inclined, I have two questions-
1. Has anyone investigated adding sprockets and chain to link two standard acme lead screws to make a twin screw vise like the Lee Valley end vise? (how did it work?)
2. Other than leaving...
Does anyone have any recommendations on bench vises in the 9 to 10.5" range (not screw or shoulder vises)?
I am not looking for cheap, but value.
Thanks,
David
Hello friends,
I am nearing to the point of selling most of my WW shop. The big tools are going and a part of me is sad to see them go. (there is good reasons for it though) I do have to say that I am going to be able to keep essential tools and I am milling the wood now for my future fold-down...
