  5. Small Walnut Bowl

    Small Walnut Bowl

From a White Walnut tree, this is a burl taken from a crotch in the trunk. The grain distortion created by the crotch is absolutely gorgeous.
  6. Spanish Teak Bowl

    Spanish Teak Bowl

Made from Spanish Teak, revolving the bowl in light presents spectacular effects as the grain direction changes. This bowl is rimmed with pure 22kt gold leaf, protected by several coats of polyurethane. A great bowl for a 6" candle.
  7. Small Sycamore bowl

    Small Sycamore bowl

Ultra thin, only 1/8" thick wall. A sycamore bowl with a small footprint, and the typical unique color only this wood offers.
  8. Small Sycamore bowl

    Small Sycamore bowl

A delicate bowl, only a 3/16" wall. This gorgeous color pattern draws attention where ever it rests.
  9. Medium Sycamore bowl

    Medium Sycamore bowl

Sycamore is hard to beat for striking grain color. The contrast between sap and heart wood always creates beautiful bowls. It measures 8" x 5.5".
  10. Poplar bowl

    Poplar bowl

Made from a young yellow poplar that was taken down from a storm, the heartwood is not as mature. The color is pale green with darker streaks. This shape seems to be a favorite of not only mine but many others.
  11. Medium Maple vessel

    Medium Maple vessel

One of my favorites so far, I hated to see it go. Made of soft wormy maple. Its 5" wide by 7.5" tall.
  12. Tall walnut box/urn

    Tall walnut box/urn

This was conceived and created for a juried competition being held at the Fayetteville, NC Museum of Art this March. It is made of White (Butternut) and Black Walnut. The pieces were turned separately and assembled

    veneer strips on turned projects

Have any of you tried applying veneer trim strips to turned projects like pepper mills and bowls? I purchased a book on the subject but it turned out that it was more about turning the object than applying the veneer. Do you have to wet the strips so they will bend around the radius?:BangHead:

    Turned mallet

This is not a new project - I know several people have made this (including Woodguy). This is from an article in Wood magazine (issue 156). Since my workbench project is sort of at a standstill right now, I figured I would knock out another shop project I've been wanting to do...

    Turned some pens

Here are the 2 most recent pens I have turned. My photography skills are much to be desired for, but these will do for now... I turned a couple of pens out of Cocobola (Spelling). But gave one to a friend, and one to my boss for Christmas ( read that as sucking up ). Those are the best ones...

Thanks John!!! Turned a couple of pens...

Well, today is the first chance I have had to turn any pens since class. I used the 3-3-3 method and they look sharp. Thanks for teaching us that method. I want to try to the CA finish, but forgot to bring gloves with me. I'd hate to buy more - we have two boxes at home. I'll get them next...

Here is a small turned box....

I like turning boxes so here is another. This box is made from walnut and I put a little birdseye maple cabachon in the lid. It is about 4 1/2" in diameter and 2 1/2" tall. Ladies love these....
