This is a very different spoon than I have ever made before. Just made it up as I went along.
First get a stick of firewood out of the pile and mount it in the lathe.
One end is mounted off center...
The other end is centered.
When you start to turn the off centered end...
Haven't had much shop time lately. Here's my feeble attempt at another acrylic pen AND photography!
It's Mother of Pearl with a Satin Pearl Kit. Both pics are the same pen w/different backgrounds. What can I do to improve the pics? (I know only more practice will help the pen turnings)...
I had the day off on Friday and decided to turn as many things as possible :wsmile:
Here is what came out of the effort:
In order they are: Black Chrome Cigar Pen in Red dyed Boxelder Burl, Bright Copper Cigar Pen in Cocobolo, Gold Sierra Pen in Boxelder Burl, Stainless Steel...
This morning I posted rifle cartridge/deer antler pens finished up yesterday, this evening the project finished up today after several previous days of work.
A kitchen canister from a burl of Japanese Weeping Cherry, a tree from the farm my wife grew up on as a child.
The interior is finished...
Needed a thank you gift for a neighbor who looked after our cats last weekend, so I turned a bottle stopper. This is some maple I got from Scott Hamm awhile back.
This pen is bloodwood and I really like the color on it. It was real nice to work with and I really like the grain. The finish is Mylands High Build Friction Polish and it is glass smooth.
This was made specifically for LOML and she loves it. Whadya think?
This weekend I turned some ebony that I've have for about 15 years. One is a pen that my daugher and I did together. She is 6 and loved helping shape it. She has also asked if it could be hers. So now she owns a black ebony pen. I will be turning another tonight and tomorrow for a 40th birthday...
I decided to try something different this weekend, a box with a screw on lid.
Once you see the photo's you'll get the idea of how I did it pretty quickly, Simple, but it works very well.
The wood is Mediterranian Myrtle, with Walnut to accent it. The Myrtle is apparently something of a rare...
I met Dozer (Mike) today near Clayton and picked up the 7 pens he made for me from Tobacco Sticks. They are really beautiful. Mike you did a great job.
I delivered one to my sister, that lives in Garner, and when I told her it was made from our Grandfather's hand cut tobacco sticks she was...
I don't have a lathe or have enough experience to properly use one but I am thinking about having some pens made from tobacco sticks. My siblings and I were all raised on a farm and tobacco was the main cash crops when we were kids.
I still have a few of the tobacco sticks and was thinking...
I have a sister who is really into knitting. I had some scrap pieces of rosewood and decided to try and turn her some knitting needles. It took some time but I think I made a useable set.
The needle size is #7 about 3/16" diameter and about 8-1/2" long. The blank was 3/4" square. I used a CA...
Hello all, sorry I have not posted in awhile. I had this idea to make a work station that included a router table on one end and on the other a cutting station that would include my table saw, all on a mobile base. Well, I ordered two plans from Norm, also spoke to several people here about...
Re: First turned bowl
There are rare cases when a person is exposed to it first hand it triggers the gene to life. My wife, bless her heart, was the first to notice. She asked me why I started wearing sweat shirts and loose clothing all the time.
I told her it allowed curls and chips to fall...
