    Exterior Shutter Material Selection

I have an abundance of Hard Maple and white cedar in the shop. My house needs new shutters on the front and I'm at a loss for which material to use. I understand the natural characteristics of both woods, but if there is a solid exterior latex on all sides would the material selection matter...

I got this email from PWW today: "Help us break a four-way tie! It's been a month since the Woodworking in America 2011 conference was held in Greater Cincinnati, and we've already begun to plan for WIA 2012. Two weeks ago, we asked for your input on where to hold the next Woodworking in...

Looking for a a wood selection to complement lacewood veneer work

Working on a commission piece for someone who wants the panels veneered with lacewood. I don't want to do the edges of the top or any of the trim in lacewood as it would be way too much, so I'm looking for a combination to match well. Final finish will be dark, if not ebonized, so long as...

    shellac spray gun selection

A while back I posted some questions about slowing the evaporation rate of denatured alcohol so that I could brush the top to my dresser. I will be experimenting with some glycol ether that should do the trick but in the event that it doesn't work as planned I would also like to explore the...

    Wood Selection for Plaque

Ok, I'm a complete newbie, so I'd like a little help on my first official project. I plan on making a plaque for my "antique" pistol which I purchased in Afghanistan. Image is posted: Pistol is about 16 inches long, so the plaque will be a 20 inch rectangle. Don't need much wood, but...

DeWalt DW705, 15amp 12" miter saw blade selection?

I have wore out the original blade on my saw and am in need of a new blade for my DeWalt 12" miter saw (DW705, 15amp). I know that there are thin kerf blades out there for underpowered saws but I have no idea if this saw fits into that category. I plan to only cut hard and soft wood with this...

Photo upload selection for Linux users......

The new flash uploader works like a charm! Only issue I found was upper case filenames. FILENAME.JPG files are not seen, whereas FILENAME.jpg is seen in the file selection window. Odds are its a Linux user issue, which probably only affect me and ashley_phil :-) I'll work on this one...

Where is best selection of bolts and screws

I am looking for a specific metric screw. Must be wafer head or have extremely low head profile. The size is M6x1.0, either 40mm or 50mm. I can easily find these screws online but not with the wafer head. In a pinch I would even try a 1/4-26 screw, but again must be wafer head.

    Router bit speed selection

When I took the ShopBot class 2 weeks ago, the instructor gave us an interesting tidbit about spindle speed and feed rate. With the ShopBot, you can control the spindle speed and feed rate directly when setting the cutting paths. The instructor stated that when you experience burning, you should...

    Hinge selection

Been looking for something a little different in the way of hinges for a cherry chest I'm nearing completion on. I wanted black iron, but don't care too much for the strap style. Bizzilions of offerings out there, but these caught my eye, so, I've decided to go with these...
