Any help identifying this wood? Redwood?

I snagged a few of what i thought were redwood posts from the front porch of a 1940s ranch house i remodeled a few years ago. Where I'm confused is in the weight of these peices. I sanded/planed/ripped them down from a 4x4'ish post that they were into about an equivalent to a 2x4 now. The...

Plant Shelf - Dawn Redwood (from Kyle)

This was fun to design/build. Drawing it in Sketchup was harder than building it! The problem was cutting the curves in the sides that angle in about 6 degrees. Finish is just a coat of Teak Oil. This redwood darkens up really quick out in the sun. LOML had it loaded up about 5 minutes...

Redwood Burl Pen Experiment - PICS

My co-worked Tom offered me a 25-year old redwood burl he picked up in a previous life in California so that a couple pens could come to life. It was a beautiful piece of wood -- well, who's to judge -- so we chopped it up into pen-size blanks! Here are a couple of picture (more in my photo...

    Curly Redwood Seachest

Finally finished the sea chest now I need to focus on the boat :) This is my version of a 18th century seafarers chest using Curly Redwood, copper rosehead nails, ERC bottom and dogwood runners. The cleats are Curly redwood as well and the till inside the chest has a lid of walnut crotch...

    Nurse Log

While this looks like a path, it is actually a six-foot diameter tree on the ground. From where the photographer stands there is a good 60 more feet of tree behind her. The closest figure in the picture is 45 inches tall, and the one way in the back is over 6 feet tall. As a sawyer, there was...

    Hiding out in the trunk

Yes, that is just one tree. You can see why George Lucas chose this forest as the location for one of the Star Wars filming sites.
