    Making a solid boat mast

Hi Folks, I hope this is a fair place to post this... I've got to replace my wood mast here in Morehead City, we have sourced a solid 8 inch square timber 34 ft long. Would anyone here have an idea of who could help me get it down to 6.25 in square or better still 8 sided? Otherwise I guess I...

    Home based Chainsaw mill questions

I am considering building a simple chainsaw mill at my house . First question; is there a way to have timber cut from personal wood stock at a saw mill and how expensive is this? Second is there an ideal size for chainsaw blade length? Or is it made to use.

    Grinding Mill

Since this was the 1st I'v made I stayed with a simple design. Cherry, 9 1/2" tall, 2 3/4" wide. Still needs a finish and I'm thinking of MinWax Wipe on Poly. The mechanism is made from ceramic and is supposed to crush pepper, salt or herbs so you can use it anyway you want. Thanks for looking.

First time with my Chainsaw Mill.

Finally got something made with my Chainsaw Mill. I used an Oak log that was damaged in a storm and Reclaimed Barn Wood for the frame. Its alot smoother than it looks. The saw marks turned out cool. I donated it to a local elementary school for a silent auction they are having.

    Jeff Mill's recent posts

I noticed Jeff Mills made a number of potentially controversial posts in the Off Topic forum about gun laws, the tapping of the oil reserve and the sales tax. So far, nobody has taken the bait, which is great. The best way to discourage these kinds of posts is to ignore them. If it keeps up...

New member from Fort Mill, SC

Howdy from a neighbor to the south. We've been in Fort Mill now for a few years and I'm just getting around to setting up shop again. I'm a software developer by trade and woodworking is just one of my many hobbies. Looking forward to becoming a productive member of the forum.

    How to mill rough lumber

So I've heard a few different approaches... I'm not talking about skip planing or milling a log, I'm talking about when I bring in rough cut lumber to the shop... what to do to square it up... I've heard to let it sit in the shop for a few days before working it... What do you do if your shop...

    Mill Work

My father-in-law, 86 yo Iowa farmer, gave me some walnut planks off the family farm. My son had asked so he could have something from his granddad in his house. Well, the planks will end up supplying the shelves in a project for his home, but I have to get some mill work done first. The planks...

Review of Carter Accuright Log Mill

As a fledgling turner, I am always collecting promising looking logs when I see them on the side of the road. My problem is turning them into blanks. I dislike ripping logs with a chainsaw, so I decided to give the Carter Accuright Log Mill a try. So far I love it! It holds the log firm even...

    Get rid of the wobble-wobble!

Ok folks, I just recently rebuilt a 1959 Unisaw (new bearings/link belt/motor/cleaning/etc), but the blade had as much wobble as my old Craftsman contractor saw and it was driving me nuts. I checked the arbor for run-out using a dial indicator. It wasn't too too bad in the .003ish range at...

    Chain Saw Mill

A few months ago I was able to pick up a Granberg Alaskan MK III G776-36 chain saw mill (Thanks to Scott Smith and NCWW classifieds). Finally have been able to try out. The day I bought it: Made a flat cutting guide for it and then put it on my Stihl MS310 with the 20" bar and regular chain...
