    Sale fliers in this morning's Raleigh newspaper announce a 10% discount at both Lowes and Home Depot for active, retired, etc. military and their families. Need to show an ID card or other proof of service. Both run from today (the 21st) through the weekend.:icon_thum Good shopping.

    Military Retirement Shadow Box

    I was commisioned (by my wife) to build the shadow box in the photo for my BIL's retirementd from the Navy (20+-years, full Commander..) next month. The box is all white oak, a light golden oak stain and poly. The layout of the medal etc was done by the wife following a sketch from the BIL.

    Decided to do away with the typical brass plaque and go with laser etching.. the base framing shop does an excellent job, however they can only handle 26" wide items. so i cut it into 3 pieces etched it then reglued it, the piece came out pretty good though...

    I needed a better way of mounting the barrel, i thought the barrel would get lost against the blue velvet. originally we wanted to chrome the barrel ($150.00 and 4 week turn-time canned that idea)
