I guess you would call this a vertical segmented piece. It is about 7" tall.
The inner core is walnut, then dogwood (with a little heartwood showing), then another walnut, followed by figured maple on the outer layer.
My goal was to see if it would hold together, not how thin I could get...
I made four of these crosses – three for neighbors as Christmas gifts, and the last one my Mom got…
Because of my lighting it is tough to tell in the first picture – but the same angle that is cut on the ends is cut on the face for visual effect. The second pic shows it some… To hang it I...
Here is another work my sweet lady done (Hummm.. Seems most of my posting are of her stuff..).... I am glad she is also into woodworking and we can be in the shop together.. ;-)
Anyway this is a scroll saw work she did the first part of September 2009. I created the base, assembled, and put...
Here is a scroll saw project that my sweet lady did that I wanted to share. She made four of these for her brothers and nephews to be gifts last Christmas. I did help a little, by making the base and help her get it as round as round can be by making her a jig… Any time we get to spend together...
Another project by my better half. This Intarsia Heron was a gift for her dad, to go with the Pelican and the Duck.
It is made of Yellowheart, Ambrosia Maple, Cherry, Maple, Ebony, and Walnut
This Intarsia Pelican was another joint venture. She did most of the work and was in a crunch for time at the end so I joined in. Here are pictures of it before and after finishing. We made it this year in June and it was supposed to be a birthday gift for her father, but was a monthish late...

It was constructed of Ambrosia Maple, Holly for the wave crest, Ebony for the eyes, and Yellow Heart for...
This Intarsia Duck was a joint venture (My sweet lady, and myself worked together on this one), and it was the first go at the intarsia craft for both of us. Here are pictures of it before and after finishing (It is still wet in the picture, it is actually a satin finish). We made this last year...

My son is working on buying his first house and he lives in Seattle, so light jackets and hoodies are a daily occurrence. This is a flat board, bookmatched spalted maple, with natural edges on the top. Height is 20 inches, width is 9 in. It will mount flat on the wall near a front entrance...
