Thank you all for the ideas. I tried to source a fine tipped needle today but, have not had any luck thus far. When I built the table I used wood glue, do you think the CA Thin will bond OK? I'll work the "de-waxing" idea. will let you know how it comes out. thanks again, Jeff

Glue REPAIR HELP - breadboard with inlay strip

I built a kitchen table (purple heart top w/ breadboard & a hard maple base) in 2005. The table although wearing well has two issues I'd appreciate suggestions to resolve. 1. When I built the table, I routered a small channel along the inner edge of the breadboard and rolled/glued in an inlay...

Project idea for kids parties/school craft festivals: bring along some pre-cut wood approx. 6" by 10", a mini router, some sharpies, craft stamps and plan for a power source. Have kids write their names with a sharpie (2" letters are ideal) on some recycled wood...we have a lot of old cedar...

    Latest Endeavour

A little off topic but, we encourage our kids to keep their first pen (or second if the first one did'nt come out well) and use it first as a "show pen" thru which they generate orders and second as a pen they can look back on over time to appreciate their progress (sanding, shaping, finishing...

    Pen Turning Equipment

Don't forget the fact that you'll need an assortment of wood from which to cut your blanks. At Kids Making It, in addition to donated blanks from many "NC Woodworkers", we've been fortunate to get odd pieces of wood flooring and decking material (size lends itself to a couple of easy cuts on the...

Any pen-turning ROOKIES here? Christmas time!

Matt, I work with a Wilmington based program, Kids Making It (KMI) and our kids are very much into pen turning. In fact Dave and Jeff have both provided wood stock and pen blanks to our program. At this time, we have about 30-40 blanks on hand but, will no doubt need more in a few weeks....if...

    A couple experiments...

Dave, That's one beautiful pen!!!!!! My vote is for the 2nd shot - hands down. The single ray of light down the length of the pen points directly at the most interesting figure/detail on the lower barrel. SWEET

    Possible first sale of pens

We had a client that ordered pens, with maple gift box (Penn State). The client wanted their logo on the boxes. So, we found a place in town that burned-in the logo...looks real cool. Only negative, the local engraver is the only one in town and he charged accordingly (i.e. 1-time art...

    Possible first sale of pens

If memory serves me, Penn State sells the maple pen box (single slot) for about $3.50 each. We sold a number of them over the holidays at Kids Making It...popular for presentation purposes or gift. (note: most folks buying pens for themselves had NO interest in the box).

    Woodworking Channel on the web

Gofor, I saved the address in my IE favorites and have just clicked on it to view. I have no ideas what plug-in(s) are supported. You might want to try entering WW Channel via DIY's site - indirect approach but, it may work for you.

    Woodturning Online Project Plans

Nick, Thank you for "turning" me onto this site. A little background; Clay had demo'd pen-turning to our KMI volunteers - now our kids turn pens/pencils...sell them. They already have done well with magic wands, wine stoppers, etc. However, on your web site, I found plans for making...
