It seems a shame to cover up all that interesting grain in the lower section with amplifiers, etc. :)

Nice looking project. I am currently considering a new housing from my home entertainment centre, based on what "us 50-somethings" desire, to wit:

Have DVD, CD, iPod players to be at eye-level or at least waist-level,
Have a 50" DLP TV, 80W/ch Yamaha amp, HDMI DVD player, 5-disc CD/DVD player, iPod dock. Speakers are already located (Cambridge Soundworks, subwoofer & 5 channels - centre speaker should be located with TV screen).

We have the TV currently at a 45-deg angle in a corner. Any ideas?
