you guys typically like the simplest projects i post about so here goes. 8 pieces of wood and 2 furniture bolts.

note - my seamstress hasn't created the real fabric straps, so i'm using some woven belts to demonstrate.

Wood: Sapele - a single board leftover from something else, all pieces came from that board. fun way to use it up.
Joinery: thru, wedged tenons. made with my mortister, 1/2 bit. then used my tenoning jig to get down to exactly the right thickness. used chisels and rasp to shape / round off the tenon. Wedged with the same Sapele so they are hard to see.
dimensions: veritical pieces ended up being about 27 inches long, 18 inches deep when open.
complications: i created the outer pieces first to figure out the inner.
also, i had to use center lines to transfer the strap holes but easy enough. also created with my homemade mortiser.

Very nice. Might consider using leather straps with this to make more swanky
